Our Story

Learn what has made our child care center great for over 44 years.

  • Founded in 1979

    This establishment was founded 1979 under the name of The Guardian Angel. Owner/Director Maritza Lopez took over in 1988, renaming it Oak Ridge Children's Academy (ORCA), coinciding with the name of the road on which it stands.

  • A New Philosophy

    Oak Ridge Children's Academy establishes a new image and philosophy in the child care industry by focusing on the whole child, with respect, love, positive approach and meaningful assistance. Through conscious social interaction, Maritza’s qualified team, facilitate the children with new experiences that strengthen their emerging development. Over the years this positive approach has made a difference in children’s learning process, creating a most effective Teacher-Student interactions.

  • Gold Seal of Excellence

    In 1991 ORCA received the Gold Seal of Excellence from 4C in recognition of the excellent quality of daycare provided to the community’s children. Oak Ridge Children's Academy has grown each year giving more opportunities to qualified teachers, holding degrees in pre-school studies and who are all certified in CPR and First Aid training. All of the teachers in the school also have health and nutrition training.

    Along the way, we have become widely recognized for our innovation, leadership, and reputation for excellence in early education. As a pioneer in education-based care, ORCA is matched by very few organizations for the perspective and insight we’ve achieved.

Teacher of the Month: Lizza Cruz Shines!

Out of 3,500 teachers in Orange County, Ms. Lizza Cruz, a VPK teacher at Oak Ridge Children’s Academy, has been named Teacher of the Month by the Early Learning Coalition of Orange County for August. We are beyond proud of Ms. Lizza for this well-deserved recognition of her dedication and passion for her students. Her amazing work is now being celebrated by all. Congratulations, Ms. Lizza, on this incredible achievement!
